Forty Mothers
The sky gives birth to the mountain
The mountain gives birth to the rain
That is what the circle begins with
The rain bears the grass and the grain
The grain gives birth to the sheep
The sheep gives birth to the cloth
The cloth gives birth to the heat
And the heat gives birth to the fog
The fog gives birth to the lake
The lake bears the fish and the drop
The drop gives birth to the bottle
While the fish bears the fish eating dog
The dog gives birth to the hunt
The hunt gives birth to the bird
The bird gives birth to the cry
Cry of joy and cry of alert
The cry gives birth to the beat
The beat gives birth to the whip
The whip bears the obedient horse
Called also the four-legged ship
The horse delivers the saddle
By the saddle the rider is born
The rider gives birth to the mare’s milk
The mare’s milk gives birth to the horn
The horn gives birth to the dancer
The dancer gives birth to the drunk
The drunk gives birth to the oak tree
To both parts, it’s top and it’s trunk
The tree trunk bears fourty mothers
We’re close to the point where to tie
The mothers give birth to the land
And the land gives birth to the sky
